The Landscape Practice were asked by The Berkeley Leisure Group Ltd to come up with ideas for possible land uses for a derelict former military summer camp within the Heritage Coastline. The Landscape Practice carried out an extensive landscape appraisal study and, based on the findings, prepared feasibility options for various development options. The basis for development was to use development as the catalyst for the improvement of a very sensitive tract of coastal landscape. A small area of land was identified where development could be accommodated with little visual intrusion. The premise was that sensitive development could be used to screen unpleasant surrounding land uses and improve the setting of the Heritage Coastline. Most of the site would be cleared of buildings and roads and returned to agriculture with permissive public access. |
