A PFI community hospital project built on a rural site on the edge of Glastonbury and flanking the Somerset Levels. The Landscape Practice produced a landscape masterplan and successfully negotiated planning approvals for the landscape design of this sensitive site.
The positioning of the hospital and the interface with its surroundings required careful design to successfully integrate the development. A controlled wetland habitat area on the north side of the building, which receives water run off from the car park and hard paved areas, forms the link between the built and natural environments. A combination of planned topography and the planting design assimilate the building into the rural surroundings. Car parking and general access is arranged on the south side of the building and is thus screened from the wider landscape. |
