Project: Newhaven Landfill Site
Client: East Sussex County Council
Perspectives: Neil Smith

<< Back to Projects

A feasibility and appraisal of a former landfill site to determine site potential for the creation of a new Country Park and Local Nature Reserve. The site is partly within the Sussex Downs AONB and therefore visually sensitive. The lack of disturbance and the infertile nature of the ground had also created a particularly unique ecology.

The Landscape Practice has prepared a report on existing site conditions, incorporating an ecology study in conjunction with the County Ecologist. This report identifies development constraints and opportunities, including the technical considerations of any disturbance to the capped tip areas. A landscape masterplan incorporates camping and caravan facilities, sports pitches, tennis courts, play areas and extensive woodland and wetland habitat areas. A further report highlights the proposals benefits and provides a management plan for ongoing conservation management and outline development costs.
