The project provides environmental improvements to a popular public waterside space with extensive estuary views over the Southampton Water. The Landscape Practice has provided masterplanning, detailed design and site administration advice to complete the project.

A new timber viewing deck built beyond the sea flood defences enhances the spectacular location and an amphitheatre space with seating steps provides a focal point for the local Hythe Festival annual events. There are a variety of seating areas with varying views. A daymarker/wind vane provides a focal reference point which can be seen from the High Street and a polar sundial creates some further interest.

The result is an interesting and comfortable space which is popoular with locals and visitors alike. The project has been recently recognised with an award in the LOCAL GOVERNMENT NEWS DESIGN COMPETITION 2007 and a CIVIC TRUST COMMENDATION AWARD 2008.
