Recently completed, the new primary school was constructed on the site of the former infants and part of the junior schools. The design maximises the use of external space by careful building positioning and logical, direct, circulation. The landscape creates spaces around the school for teaching and recreation and offers a framework that can be further developed by the school in relation to its current and future needs. A secure nature area incorporates a wildlife pond, meadows and native trees, shrubs, wildflowers and hedgerows and this continues to be further planted by the schools nature club. The nature area was a positive gain to manage surface water run off from the playing fields and open areas. The design includes social spaces for the pupils, outdoor learning spaces and sports and recreation facilities. A group of prominent mature pine trees gave the school its name, significantly influenced the site development layout and was integrated into a significant tree and hedgerow planting strategy which will provide long term benefits to the school, the local area and wildlife. |
